An Ector County man was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sentenced to 50 years, following an investigation started by the Del Rio Police Department, the city of Del Rio announced earlier this month.
According to the information released by the city, on Aug. 19, 2020 an individual, whose name was not disclosed, contacted the Del Rio Police Department to report a crime.
The individual reported, the city said, that a two-year-old could have been experiencing sexual abuse at home, outside the Del Rio jurisdiction.
The complainant only had a social media profile name of the male suspect and a possible area where the suspected male could be residing.
With the limited information on hand, Del Rio Police Department opened the investigation and contacted the local FBI office for assistance.
Approximately three weeks later, a Del Rio Police Department investigator received a call from a family member of the child wishing to know why Child Protective Services wanted to conduct a welfare check on their child.
It was at this time that the local investigator was able to obtain full identifying information for the child victim and her family along with their home address. The investigator furthermore expressed her concerns about the child and urged the parent to report the incident to law enforcement in their jurisdiction.
On Sep. 15, 2020, the Del Rio Police investigator received a call from an Ector County Detective requesting information on the case. Both investigators met at Del Rio Police Department where evidence and reports were exchanged.
On May 26, 2022, the Del Rio Police Investigator received a telephone call from the Ector County detective to inform her that the suspect, identified as Fabian Andres Ortega, 23 years of age, was found guilty for the offense of aggravated sexual assault of child and was sentenced to 50 years without the possibility of parole.

Un hombre del Condado Ector fue declarado culpable de agresión sexual agravada de un niño y sentenciado a 50 años de cárcel, luego de una investigación iniciada por el Departamento de Policía de Del Río, anunció la ciudad a principios de mes.
De acuerdo con la información difundida por la ciudad, el 19 de agosto de 2020 un individuo, cuyo nombre no fue revelado, se comunicó con el Departamento de Policía de Del Río para denunciar un delito.
El individuo informó, dijo la ciudad, que un niño de dos años podría haber sufrido abuso sexual en su hogar, fuera de la jurisdicción de Del Río.
El denunciante solo tenía un nombre de perfil en redes sociales del sospechoso y un área posible donde el sospechoso podría residir.
Con la información limitada disponible, el Departamento de Policía de Del Río abrió la investigación y se comunicó con la oficina local del FBI para obtener ayuda.
Aproximadamente tres semanas después, una detective del Departamento de Policía de Del Río recibió una llamada de un miembro de la familia del niño que deseaba saber por qué los Servicios de Protección Infantil querían realizar una verificación de su hijo.
Fue en ese momento que la investigadora pudo obtener la información de identificación completa de la víctima y su familia junto con la dirección de su casa. Además, la investigadora expresó su preocupación por el niño e instó a los padres a denunciar el incidente a la policía de su jurisdicción.
El 15 de septiembre de 2020, la detective de Del Río recibió una llamada de un detective del Condado Ector solicitando información sobre el caso. Ambos investigadores se reunieron en el Departamento de Policía de Del Río donde se intercambiaron pruebas e informes.
El 26 de mayo de 2022, la Investigadora de la Policía de Del Río recibió una llamada telefónica del detective del Condado Ector para informarle que el sospechoso, identificado como Fabián Andrés Ortega, de 23 años de edad, fue declarado culpable por el delito de agresión sexual agravada de menor, y fue condenado a 50 años sin posibilidad de libertad condicional.
