DEL RIO – The Del Rio High School playoff run came to a halt last Saturday, November 28, 2015 in San Antonio, as the Rams fell to the Steele Knights by a score of 28-10, in the third round of the Class 6-A Div. II Region 4 high school football postseason. 

Del Rio didn’t fall without a fight, despite the third ranked opponent impressive credentials.

Steele opened the scoring by means of a defensive touchdown by Caden Sterns in the first quarter. The Rams responded right before the half, as Tyler Hopkins kicked a 32 yard field goal to close the gap 7-3.

Steele would score again with less than a minute left before halftime, when Travell Lumpkin rushed the ball 6 yards into the end zone, 14-3 with the PAT.

In the third quarter Brysn Denley increased the lead for the Knights, with a 14-yard rushing touchdown, 21-3 after the PAT.

The Rams never quit fighting, and their effort paid out in the third as Steven Salinas found Gaston Flores with a 14-yard pass into pay dirt, to move the score 21-10 after the PAT by Hopkins.

The Knights would add one last touchdown to the score in the fourth quarter, for the final 28-10. Steele advances to the fourth round of the playoffs, where they will be facing the Clemens Buffaloes.
