SEMINOLE–A year ago the Canyon Eagles fell to the Lakeview Chiefs, 26-21 in the first round. Friday night in a Class 5A Division I playoff game at Wigwam Stadium in Seminole, Texas, the Eagles returned the favor, holding off the Chiefs 58-37. 

The Chiefs were leading the Eagles 36-35 in the fourth quarter. And, despite its best offensive output by quarterback, Henry Nickias’ nearly 400 combined yards of passing and rushing, it was two key plays that turned the game in favor of Canyon.

The first one came just before the half as the Chiefs lost a fumble that Canyon turned into points to lead 28-16 at half-time. The second turnover came with under six minutes to play in the game, another fumble that the Eagles scored on to put the Chiefs away.

The Chiefs ended their season at 3-8 while the Eagles, 8-3 advance to the next round.
