SAN ANGELO – Friday night in a playoff game at San Angelo Stadium, the Bobcats after sharing the District 3-6A title as co-champs, add another hardware, this one the Class 6A Division II Region I Bi-District trophy as Central corralled the Arlington High Colts, 45-28.

In two particular quarters, the first and in the fourth is when the game turned against the Colts in favor of the Cats. After Central and Arlington High are tied 7-7, Colts' back, Kenland McCray scores on a spectacular 38-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7, Colts. However, there's a penalty on the play, nullifying the touchdown. On Central's ensuing possession, it's the Cats who take care of the ball, committing no mistakes to take the lead 14-7.

In the fourth quarter, with Central leading, 35-28, the ‘Cats balanced offense of pass vs run, marshals from the 28-yard line to go 72 yards to put the "icing on the cake" or rather hoist the Bi-District trophy up after the game.

On that drive, Central faced a critical third-and-eight from their 30, receiver Cal Vincent makes a one-handed stab of Brennen Wooten's pinpoint pass for a 33-yard gain to the 37. Daven Manning eventually scores from 11 yards out as the ‘Cats go up 42-28 which is the final score.

The tale of the tape on that impressive drive was that Central's offense went 72 yards and ate up 4 minutes and 28 seconds off the clock.

After the game, Coach Brent Davis gave his thoughts on that back-breaking, consuming drive.

"We challenged our kids last week about putting it in the end zone and I thought we did a wonderful job of doing that tonight," Coach Davis said.

On the highlights recap: Central scored first when Wooten hits receiver Will Grindstaff to make it, 7-0; Arlington High ties the score when quarterback Caelan Day connects with Trey Hitchcock for an 8-yard touchdown. After that first quarter penalty nullified Mccray's touchdown, that's when Central's Daven Manning scores the first of his four touchdowns on a run inside the 20-yard line to take the lead 14-7.

Manning scores again in the second quarter from 2-yards as Central now leads 21-7. Cats' QB Wooten connects with Will Grindstaff from over 30 yards out and it's CHS 28, AH 7.

The Colts respond with a score of their own to cut the deficit to 28-14 and that's what the half-time score becomes.

For the second half, particularly the third quarter, the Bobcats and Colts only score once. Manning gets his third touchdown run from 3-yards out; it's CHS 35, AH 14. The Colts score with 20 seconds left before the third quarter ends as quarterback Day throws a touchdown to Rashad Anderson from 20 plus yards to make it Cats 35, Colts 21.

Arlington High quickly strikes again, one minute and 21 seconds later, as Day scores from about four yards to make it Colts, 28, Cats 35.

Central scores their final 10 points on a touchdown from Manning (his fourth) and a field goal to finish off Arlington High.

CHS next plays the El Paso Americas Trailblazers in an Area game, tentatively scheduled Friday, Nov. 20 at Grande Stadium in Midland, Texas. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
