DEL RIO – A resident of Del Rio woke up Wednesday morning to find out the vehicle she had left parked outside her residence was missing. The vehicle, a 2005 Ford Explorer, was found that same morning by the Del Rio Police Department, parked and abandoned a few blocks away.

The report was made on Wednesday morning, July 13, 2016, by Karla Zavala, resident of the 100 block of Rowland Drive at 5:38 a.m. The vehicle was last seen the night before at 8 p.m.

An officer patrolling the 200 block of Avant Street spotted the vehicle, and upon confirming that it was the one reported stolen that morning, called the Criminal Investigations Division to process the scene.

The vehicle had not been burglarized, and the owner didn’t report anything missing. After processing the vehicle it was returned to its owner.

Sergeant Robert Zaragoza, of the Del Rio Police Department, issued several general recommendations to minimize the possibility of having your vehicle stolen, such as: to always lock the doors when parking your vehicle, to park in a well-illuminated area when possible, and to remove any and all valuables from the inside to prevent making your vehicle more attractive to possible burglars.
