DEL RIO – A suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, following the stabbing of a couple occurring in Del Rio on Thursday, June 16, 2016. The suspect, Ricardo Flores, 37-years-old, of Del Rio, turned out to be one of the alleged victims of the incident.

Sgt. Robert Zaragoza, with the Del Rio Police Department, said that Flores was arrested on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, as soon as he came back home from the hospital, in San Antonio, Texas, where he was being treated for what now is believed to be self-inflicted wounds.

“He is believed to have involvement in the injury of a female victim, who we believe is the common law spouse,” Sgt. Zaragoza said.

The female victim, 38-years-of-age, and whose name is not being released, has also been released from her condition at the hospital.

According to the investigation, the couple had an argument that night, and after slitting her throat Flores left her for dead. Police investigators believe that later on he slit his own throat. They were both flown to San Antonio, were they were treated for their wounds.

The incident took place at the 1300 block of E Gibbs Street, near the Stripes convenience store.

While Flores was in the hospital, detectives with the Del Rio Police Department obtained a warrant for his arrest, and kept track of his moves. As soon as the suspect returned home, on Wednesday, June 22, he was arrested, processed, and taken to the Val Verde County corrections facility.
