Conexión Del Río/Staff Report

DEL RIO – The body of a 17-year-old woman was found Tuesday morning, April 19, 2016, after neighbors of the Atilano Barrera subdivision reported what seemed to be a dead body in Acuña, Mexico. The body was found on an empty lot on Baja California Street.

The body was found at approximately 1:30 a.m. after neighbors reported the finding. City Police officers were the first ones to arrive, only to find the decapitated body, but the head was nowhere to be found. The missing head was found nearly 12 hours later, after an intense search by authorities, in a different location some 3 miles away, at the Lazaro Cardenas subdivision.

Mexican officials have identified the woman as Maria Alejandra Aragon Reyes, 17-years-of-age.

The body was transported to the medical examiner, where authorities were expecting family members to reclaim her remains.

The case remains under investigation by Mexican authorities, under the jurisdiction of the PGJE, the investigative police branch under the Coahuila State Attorney’s office.
