DEL RIO - On Friday, April 17, Mayor Robert Garza signed a letter of intent to begin American Airlines service to Del Rio.

A contract was approved earlier on Tuesday and is expected to be signed in the next few days.

The contract involves financial terms of a minimum revenue guarantee, none of which are coming from property taxes or other revenues of the city.

“The airline service will be a great aid in economic development, and will push Del Rio forward, creating new jobs and growing the city,” said Mayor Robert Garza.

The presence of American Airlines in Del Rio will also play a factor in the stay of Laughlin Air Force Base.
