DEL RIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Comstock Station found a deceased individual on a local ranch, last month.

“Attempting to circumnavigate the rugged terrain poses a great danger and risk to life,” said Del Rio Sector Chief, Felix Chavez. “Unfortunately, the topography of the Texas/Mexico border can be deadly for those individuals ill-equipped to handle the treacherous journey.”

Border Patrol agents encountered two undocumented aliens on a ranch west of Langtry.  They informed the agents their companion had most likely been injured and had possibly fallen into a canyon.  Comstock agents immediately began searching for the man and eventually discovered a lifeless body in Pump Canyon.

Agents quickly notified the Val Verde Sheriff’s Office; Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR); and a Val Verde County justice of the peace.  Due to the terrain and the depth of the canyon, BORSTAR agents had to use technical rope recovery procedures to extract the deceased man from the bottom of the canyon.  An identification card found on the body identified the man as a 33-year-old Mexican national.  His body was turned over to a local funeral home and the Mexican Consulate was notified.
