DEL RIO – It’s official. The Val Verde County Clerk will be decided in the Democratic Primary next spring, March 6th. Among the two Democratic candidates to file for that position was Ramiro Guzman who was the second person to do that on November 11 at 12:02 a.m. The Honorable Generosa (Janie) Gracia-Ramon, is the current Val Verde County Clerk.

Conexión Del Rio asked Guzman why he was running for the Clerk’s position at this time?

“I’m running for this office because it is a job that I felt I could fulfill the duties of that position which fits within my skill set.”

Prior to Guzman’s filing for the position, he has been at the service of his community doing volunteerism with nonprofits since he came home to Del Rio, 15 years ago.

Guzman, whose campaign theme is, “At Your Service, a Sus órdenes” believes that servant spirt of volunteerism, plus his professional career of 20 years in the technological industry, qualifies him for the position

As for what is required of a country clerk, Guzman is familiar enough with the position to believe he can do the job.

“The county clerk’s position/ responsibilities involve issuing marriage licenses, file deeds when buying a or selling a home.” “It is also the clerk for the probate court which settles wills, the county court at-law and the commissioner’s court.” “The County Clerk’s Office is also involved in administering elections, so all of these duties/ responsibilities affect the citizens of Val Verde County,” he said.

One other thing that Guzman wants to provide to the Val Verde County Clerk’s Office is customer service, focused, team-oriented approach. “Customer focused means any citizens of Val Verde County who interact with the Clerk’s Office. “I want to hear directly from citizens of Val Verde County during this long three-month job interview and have them ask me questions to let them know that I am qualified for this position,” concluded Guzman.
