DEL RIO – Back by popular demand, the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its’ 2nd annual Masquerade Ball on October 28 as community members and business leaders alike, were in favor of a familiar repeat.

Conexión Del Rio interviewed DRHC Board President, Otila Gonzalez, one of several people who decided they were on to something unique, so they did it again for a second consecutive year. 

Gonzalez also gave credit to the other person, Alida Helgerman, the Hispanic Chambers’ Finance Director, and the other Chamber staff which was involved in the strenuous project.

“Alida Helgerman, was the point person in charge of heading up the committee “Everybody pulled together, working on this gala event for the past several months,” said Gonzalez.

Prior to the Masquerade dance was the presentation of awards to the following: Sylvia Davila of IBC Bank won Business Woman of the Year, Polo Del Rio--Business Man of the Year; Maggie Roman--Entrepreneur of the Year; Gilbert Mercado for Small Business of the Year; Carlos Ayala--Large Business of the Year; and Sylvia Owens won for Business Hispanic Chamber Advocate of the Year.

As for the master of ceremonies and live entertainment, that would Del Rio’s own, Claudia Garofalo. Garofalo currently co-hosts her own morning television program “San Antonio Living.” Evolution, a band from San Antonio, played a wide genre of music, Hispanic to country, hip hop and line dance past the midnight hour.

Saturday evening’s MB gala was held from 7 p.m.- 1 a.m. at the Del Rio Civic Center in the Pecan Ball Room.
