Conexión Del Rio/ Staff report

DEL RIO – Phase one of the Toll Booth Plaza Reconstruction Project has been completed by Krueger Construction Co. and will begin operations at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 1. Although the new toll booth will be open, City officials caution drivers to be careful when going past the collection lanes as they will still encounter the old toll booth lanes, but will not need to pay twice.

Phase two construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 2. The old toll booth plaza will be demolished at a near date to be announced in the future.

This project benefits the community by improving the flow of increased traffic potential as well as upgrading the software used to collect the tolls, decreasing wait times at the international bridge. There will also be an added level of security at the toll plaza by placing it immediately adjacent to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) substation.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m. More information will follow in the near future.
