DEL RIO –The strong relationship between two cities that has made them successful is what bonds them tightly, Congressman, O’Rourke said as he was in Del Rio last week on his first stop ever to get to known Del Rioans better.

“It’s a great time to represent the interests of the border.” “It’s an opportunity to share with everyone what makes Del Rio so successful such as the relationship with Ciudad Acuña,” said U.S. Congressman, Beto O’Rourke.

O’Rourke also is hopeful that conversations, the policies and writing comprehensive Immigration Reform Legislation is successful in moving forward.

Congressman O’Rourke stated that he wanted to better understand the community, representing the people in their own words.

“I don’t pretend to know better than Del Rio, nor what is important to Del Rio and that’s why I am here to listen,” he said.

The way campaigns should be run is to listen to the people they represent and be with the people they are representing, stated the Congressman.

In O’Rourke’s four plus years in Congress, he has worked on insuring veterans have received the health care, the educational benefits, help with housing and supporting our service members at installations such as Lackland Air Force Base.

“And representing the interest of the U.S.- Mexico Border, talking about how to make free trade, fair trade.” “Also, trying to dispel some of the negative myths about Mexico and the U.S. Mexico Border in cities like Del Rio,” concluded O’Rourke.
