DEL RIO,Tx – A Skins game, the longest drive, closest to the pin contest, a hole-in-one contest for a free car, and a golf tournament were part of the golf card lineup on Saturday, March 25th as Border Federal Credit Union held its 5th annual event at the San Felipe Springs Golf Course.
“We had 18 teams participate and compete in the fifth annual BFCU Golf Tournament which turned out to be a success again,” said Abram Rodriguez, Marketing Specialist for BFCU.
All the proceeds raised from Saturday’s tournament went toward Border’s scholarship fund. In 2016, a total of 39 scholarships were awarded which came to $19,000 worth.
This year the total amount raised was over $17,000. BFCU has awarded over $52,000 in scholarships to deserving students and teachers since the BFCU Scholarship Fund was started.
The following four man teams won a combined $2,500 for first, second and third place winners
High Performance Contracting Services was this year’s first place tournament winner as its owner, Jose Ortega, along with Michael Calderon, Jessie Rodriguez and Warren Tito came away with $1,200.
Second team: Jose “Jack” Castaneda, Gilbert Sanchez, Robert Musquiz and Burt Sutton won $800.
And the third place team of: Mac Ortiz, Mak Ortiz, Fernando Romero and Joey Gomez, won $500.
As for the winner of the $1,000 raffle ticket, it was Arturo Blanco.

Abram stated that in order to apply for a scholarship the only requirement is that the student must be a member of the credit union and live within the 13 surrounding counties.
“Thank for your support in our ongoing efforts to support the education in the youth in our community,” concluded, Rodriguez.
