DEL RIO,TX–Del Rio High School CTE Welding class traveled to district competition in San Antonio recently to compete in the Skills USA Leadership & Skills competition. The results are:
Welding Speed Skills- 1st Place: Joaquin Sanchez; 2nd place: Ramon Sifuentes;
3rd place: Edgar Salas; 4th Place: Brandon Castellanos
Welding Applications- 1st Place: Andrew Castro; 3rd place: Iyilia Falcon
Welding Team Fabrication- 1st Place: Feliciano Narvaez, Alejandro Piña, and Brenden Paradis
Welding Sculpture: 1st Place: Erick Ibarra; 2nd place: Leonel Hernandez
Welding Job Exhibit Individual- [Welding Tree Project] All First Place – Sergio Trevino, Marisol Falcon, Agapito Urrutia, Iyilia Falcon, Ramon Sifuentes, Joaquin Sanchez, Andrew Castro, Leonel Hernandez, Brandon Castellanos, and Erick Ibarra. [Front Replacement Project] 1st Place: Brenden Paradis.
Welding Job Exhibit Multiple- First Place- Carlos Bernal & Noe Leyva (Industrial Electrode Cabinet). First Place- Dariana Barrios-Salas & Mariana De Hoyos (Industrial Rolling Cart)
Technical Related Math Competition- First place- Sergio Trevino, Third place- Dariana Barrios-Salas.
These students will advance to the State Skills USA Competition in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 6-8, 2017. The DRHS Welding Program is part of the Manufacturing Cluster and part of the growing Career and Technical Education (CTE) program now housed at the Gerardo J. Maldonado CTE Center. Accompanying students to the competition was Mr. Tod Townsend, welding instructor.
