DEL RIO,TX–In a coexistence with the Consulate of Mexico in the city of Del Rio, several executives met to celebrate the Candelaria tradition.

"It is always a pleasure to share Mexican traditions with people. The tradition of the celebration of candelaria on February 2 comes from the celebration of January 6. On January 6th, the thread of kings (rosca de reyes) is shared and whoever takes out the figure of the baby child God, is responsible for paying the tamales on February 2. The tamales may vary, depending on the region of the country" commented Carlos Gustavo Obrador Garrido Cuesta, Consul of Mexico in Del Rio.

"In Mexico City and the surrounding states, the tamale torta is used for breakfast. Basically it is a bread (bolillo) with a tamale in the middle and the atole drink. In Mexico there are restaurants that specialize only in making tamales" commented Mr. Javier.

"It is called the day of the candelaria (candlestick) because it comes from the blessing of the candles, what the candle weeps is called ‘candela’. The story is more extensive, but this is the brief explanation. The convivial can be familiar or in businesses. First is the celebration of the thread of kings and then the tamales on February 2" commented Mrs. Norma.
