Del Río, Texas. – Conexión Del Río interviewed Michael Diaz, Director of the Whitehead Museum who shared about the events and projects of the museum for the next coming months.

“For the next three months February, March and April, we are having a program called Humanities Texas Exhibition series. The first one ‘Crossroads of Empire: Early Printed Maps of the American Southwest’ will be on February 3rd. The second one ‘Cartooning Texas: One Hundred years of cartoon in the Lone Star State’ will be on March 3rd. The last one “The Dust Bowl’ will be on April 7th. They will be open to the public, there will be refreshments, snacks, so people can have a good time.

In May we’ll present the ‘Dinosaur Museum’ at the Del Rio Civic Center Red Oak Ballroom.

We have memberships for the artists and people who want to be part of the museum. There is a Family membership that costs $25 and includes 1 year of free admittance to the museum, a 20% discount of the grounds rental if they want to use it for a wedding or quinceanera. The money that we make from memberships helps us keep running the museum. We want to bring more local people to the museum, some of them have lived in Del Rio all their life and never been to the Museum.

People can make money donations but also artifacts or furniture, they have to be locally, we don’t take from outside of the county. They can also donate things in memory of someone else. Volunteers are also accepted for the events, especially for kids' events” commented Mr. Diaz.
