BRACKETTVILLE,TX–Kinney County Sheriff’s deputies, Border Patrol agents, Department of Public Safety officers, U.S. Marshals, and Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine units were instrumental in quelling a prison riot at the Kinney County Detention Center.  

Jan. 25, at approximately 6:30 p.m., deputies were alerted to a prison riot at the Kinney County Detention Center.  The information indicated that approximately 65 detainees were actively participating in the riot and facility personnel lost partial control of the compound.  

Kinney County Sherriff’s deputies, along with state and federal agencies, responded to the facility’s location and established a perimeter.  After assessing the situation, an entry plan was quickly developed.  Law enforcement partners, led by the Border Patrol Tactical Unit, entered the facility and subdued approximately 65 hostile detainees.  The quick response and tactical prowess overwhelmed the dissidents and the situation was resolved without any injuries or escapes.  

“I am extremely proud of my deputies for their quick response and courage,” said Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe. “The multi-agency cooperation that occurred here was second to none.  This situation highlights the community relationships Kinney County shares with local, state, and federal partners.”
