DEL RIO – Talent and dedication were recognized Wednesday noon, June 8, 2016 at the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting, as the 2016 scholarships were presented to some of the most outstanding San Felipe Del Rio High School graduating seniors.

Thirteen $500 scholarships were presented for a total of $6,500 in donations, which will help these remarkable students to further their higher education in colleges and universities across the country.

The scholarship program is sponsored-based, with some of the chamber members making the donation directly to the students. The total of contributing sponsors this year was 10 chamber members.

A chamber committee blindly selected the recipients among 65 applicants. The selecting committee reviewed the students’ academic achievements, without having access to the name of the applicant.

Those recognized this year, are as follows:

Adrian Bermea sponsored by Border Federal Credit Union; Miguel Chairez – ALCOA; Louis Anthony Cadena, Toby Coggins, Chelsea A. Hopkins – The Bank and Trust; Annissa Figueroa, Kaylee Herzog – Air Force Credit Union; Fatima Garanzuay – Gatti’s; Jesse Jimenez – Marylin Martin-Hunt Memorial Scholarship; Israel Sosa – Frontera Pediatrics; Adriana R. Urueta – Brown Automotive; Kristina Raney Guerra – CVB Donna Langford Memorial Scholarship; Anna Adams – Linda Henderson Memorial Scholarship.
